Confidentiality & Privacy Policy
Confidentiality matters! There are limited exceptions, however.
The law protects the relationship between a client and a psychotherapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission.
Exceptions include:
- Suspected child abuse or dependant adult or elder abuse, which I am required by law to report to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious (i.e., sexual assault, homicide) bodily harm to another person/s, I must inform law enforcement and the intended victim.
-
If a client is threatening to take their own life, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety.
If they do not cooperate, I am required to take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety. If you are in a moment of crisis and considering taking your own life, please call the National Suicide Prevention line at: 988.
